SUMMARY:Tenant Employment in Permanent Supportive Housing
DESCRIPTION:Permanent Supportive Housing offers a stable platform from which tenants can regain a working life. In this workshop we will consider the reasons for making employment services a priority\, the benefits to tenant employment and why supported employment is the preferred employment intervention in PSH. Several examples of PSH based employment will illustrate the commitment and strategies organizations use to increase employment outcomes among tenants. Time permitting\, consideration will also be given to:  “Vocationalizing” PSH and establishing outcome expectations. \nClick here to register. \nTrainer: John Rio\, MA\, CRC is a well-known Houston-based trainer on employment services for people experiencing homelessness. At Advocates for Human Potential he currently directs the National Veterans Technical Assistance Center for US DOL; provides technical assistance and training for HUD recipients and CoCs; and works with the VA on expanding employment services for homeless veterans. He has managed supportive housing and employment programs during his 35 years in the field and has written about job readiness and PSH employment models. Previously he worked for the Corporation for Supportive Housing in New York; St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx; Community Counseling Center in R.I. and founded Riverwood Rehabilitation Services in R.I.
