Ending Homelessness:  The Vital Role of Business and Community Leaderssponsored by Partnership for Strong Communities

After significant success engaging business and community leaders in her city’s efforts to eradicate chronic homelessness, Geraldine McCafferty, housing director of Springfield, MA, will describe the model she shaped and offer a blueprint for its duplication in Connecticut’s municipalities at 8:30am on April 29 at an IForum at the Lyceum in Hartford.

McCafferty’s speech – “Ending Homelessness: The Vital Role of Business and Community Leaders” – will be followed by responses from a panel of experts: Robert Schwarz, president, Peter Pan Bus Lines; Ellen Simpson, executive director of Friendship House and leader of the New Britain 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness; and Susan Murphy, executive director of the Liberty Bank Foundation and member of the Middlesex County 10-year Plan to End Homelessness steering committee. The panel will be moderated by Sarah Gallagher, program director of the Connecticut office of the Corporation for Supportive Housing, and will be followed by audience questions and comments.

McCafferty is the 2008 recipient of the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance Cornerstone Award, which honors individuals and organizations who have demonstrated innovative efforts to end homelessness and a commitment to providing assistance and care for homeless citizens across the Commonwealth.

According to Mayor Domenic Sarno, “Gerry McCafferty is regarded as an expert in her field. Her leadership has placed Springfield in the national spotlight.”

This event is of vital interest to homelessness service providers, municipal officials, 10-Year Plan members, and business and community leaders.
