The Network has already signed on in support of this bill; please ask your organization to sign on, too! See more from Homes for All Massachusetts Coalition:

Evictions and foreclosures during the pandemic are now an awful reality in Massachusetts, with over 8,000 eviction cases filed since the state moratorium ended statewide and over 1,700 in Western Massachusetts alone.

Please take action now: make a call and/or send an email to demand passage of the COVID-19 Housing Equity bill. Organizations can endorse using this form.

The COVID-19 Housing Equity bill will prevent evictions and foreclosures, and ensure a more equitable housing recovery. Without it, this pandemic will cause displacement and deepen the housing crisis, with disproportionate harm to communities of color and low-income households.

Landlords have been given permission to forcibly remove tenants in over 1,000 cases since October. Banks are continuing to schedule foreclosures despite the ongoing pandemic, with 1500+ homeowners at risk of losing their homes. Some of the most vulnerable tenants are locked out of rental assistance program. We can’t allow this to become a “new normal.”

Take action and learn more about the bill on the Homes for All Mass website. Sample messages and contact info are provided – just enter your name and contact info in the form. It only takes a minute but it makes a big difference! Note: if it’s outside of business hours, you can still make a call and leave a voicemail.

The current situation calls for urgent action, but it would be even worse without the legal protections you helped to win earlier this winter. See this fact sheet for details about the COVID-19 Housing Equity bill and why it’s needed.
