Co-Sponsorship Asks: Access to Counsel and Real Estate Transfer Fee
The 2025–2027 Legislative Session is underway which means our advocacy begins!
While the Network will determine all of its legislative priorities shortly, we are starting with requests for co-sponsorship of two bills that will continue to be front and center for us: Access to Counsel and the Real Estate Transfer Fee to fund affordable housing, both of which are linchpins in our efforts to prevent and end homelessness.
Write or call your State Representative and State Senator (find your legislators here) with this simple message:
Dear Rep. __________ and Senator __________:
I am writing in partnership with the Western MA Network to End Homelessness to ask you to co-sponsor these two bills.
An Act promoting access to counsel and housing stability in Massachusetts:
SD1771 – lead sponsor: Senator Sal DiDomenico
HD3912 – lead sponsors: Rep. David Rogers and Rep.Michael Day
An Act enabling a local option for real estate transfer fee to fund affordable housing:
SD1216 – lead sponsor: Sen. Jo Comerford
HD1112 – lead sponsors: Rep. Mike Connolly and Rep. Carmine Lawrence Gentile
As homelessness rises to unprecedented levels with a lack of affordable housing to match, these bills are critical tools towards lasting solutions.
Thank you for your consideration,
