Thanks to the National Low Income Housing Coalition for this action alert:

The House of Representatives is preparing for a final vote on the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA) as soon as today. While HUD housing and homelessness assistance programs are not targeted for cuts, the massive reconciliation bill would slash funding for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), two programs that play a crucial role in economic stability for people and families with low incomes.

The provisions would also make it more difficult for people experiencing homelessness to access and maintain medical care, which increases the risk of severe illness and can prolong homelessness.

Take Action: Tell Your Representative to Oppose Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP

With the updated bill having passed out of the Senate, House Republicans are facing significant pressure from the White House and party leadership to pass the bill without changes. However, there is still time to reach out to your Representative and express how this bill will affect your community. Here’s how:

  • Use the Coalition on Human Need’s Take Action portal to contact your congressional officials and urge them to oppose the bill’s proposed cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.
  • Learn more about the potential impact of the reconciliation bill on your state using the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities’ factsheets.
  • Strengthen your understanding of the differences between “reconciliation” and “appropriations” with NLIHC’s new factsheet.
