COMMUNITY ORGANIZER/OUTREACH COORDINATOR POSITION AVAILABLE
The law firm of Heisler, Feldman, McCormick and Garrow, P.C. is seeking a well qualified individual to work on two main organizing/outreach campaigns in Springfield, Massachusetts:
(1) the main focus of the job will be to organize and provide outreach to low income tenants in Springfield. This will mean organizing and working with the groups that work on housing issues (e.g., Pioneer Valley Project, Arise for Social Justice, Western Mass. Legal Services, Massachusetts Justice Project, Network to End Homelessness) and working to organize tenants (e.g., focusing on foreclosed properties to prevent tenants from leaving after foreclosure, and neighborhoods at risk)
(2) the secondary focus will be to help organize and conduct outreach to low income workers around minimum wage/overtime issues, misclassification (calling them “independent contractors” to avoid paying benefits as employees) and other worker issues. We intend to work with immigrant workers who are potentially being abused by their employers.
