Thanks to Bill Miller, executive director of Friends for the Homeless, for providing this update below.  And thanks to legislators and Network partners for supporting this important step towards greater equity and greater resources for homeless individuals in our region.

The Governor has signed the state budget that includes a new provision in Line Item 7004-0102 which governs funding for shelters and programs serving adult individuals that states: no shelter shall receive less than $20 per bed per night, up from a minimum of $12.97. the state average is $29.24.  In Western Mass, this means an increase for Friends of the Homeless in Springfield. No other Western Mass shelter is affected. The complete list of state-funded shelters listing their average nightly  rate is below:
