Community Engagement Committee Minutes – 9/16/10
In attendance: Andrew Baker, No on Question 2 Campaign, Andrew Morehouse, Western Mass. Food Bank, Pamela Schwartz, coordinator, Suzanne Smith, data analyst, Don Stevens, community member, Lynne Wallace, Dietz&Co. Architects
Leadership Council membership check-in
Took stock of recruitment.    Agreed focus is on expanding representation in key areas, as opposed to need for more people (we have plenty!).
Decided on current to-do list:
Chicopee Mayor Michael Bissonnette – Pamela
Jeff Sullivan, United Bank – Lynne
Eco. Development Council – Gerry (Pamela will check with her)
Jim Lumley, Town and Country Realty, Amherst – Pamela
Franklin County business – Pamela will check with Father Stan
Berkshire County business (Berkshire Bank, Construct, Inc) – Pamela will check with Dave about inviting business  reps to 10/27 meeting
Rev. Joel Huntington, Berkshires – Pamela will invite to 10/27 LC meeting
Health Care for Homeless – Pamela will check with Gerry
Valley CDC – Lynne
No on Question 2 campaign
Andrew Baker, No on 2 coordinator, presented update.
Mayors signed on in opposition:  Springfield, Holyoke, Northampton, Easthampton, Greenfield
Op-eds – one shot per paper – probable for Republican will be Mayor Sarno
3 big areas looking for help:
·         Lawn signs
·         Letters to the editor
·         Holding signs at polls
Network will write letters to editor, signed by co-chairs (and possible others for Berkshire version).  Pamela will recruit other Network partners to write letters on their org behalf – will be conduit to Andrew.
Network will do weekly reminders on blog around Question 2 on lawn signs, sign holding, letters.
Next meeting:   Thursday, October 21st at 9 am, DMH Haskell Building.
