New Study of Nonprofit Executive Leadership in New England Launches on September 16, 2014
Are you a nonprofit executive or board member?
You are invited to participate in Leadership New England, a survey of executive leadership in our region.
In partnership with foundations and nonprofits from each New England state, Third Sector New England is launching a new study on the state of nonprofit leadership. The survey is designed for executive directors and board members to help investigate their current challenges, discover where they are headed, and document what organizations need to move forward.

The executive director survey will take approximately 40 minutes to complete and the board survey will take about 30 minutes to complete. Both surveys are divided into sections that focus on you, the organization, leadership support needs, the board and the staff. Many of the questions are fast-paced multiple choice or ranking style questions with optional narrative questions to help us more deeply understand your perspective and experience.
Why Now?
The past decade has been a tumultuous time for nonprofits. As our region recovers from the recession, nonprofit leaders and organizations will be faced with a new set of challenges that will require different types of support from funders and capacity builders. Nonprofits are also about to experience the departures of many long-time leaders, which will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the sector.
In response to what we believe is a significant information gap, we are initiating Leadership New England to provide real data about our region’s nonprofit sector. We are inviting you to participate in this groundbreaking study.
The Study
Leadership New England is a region-wide study that will provide a view on leadership, upcoming executive departures, financial security, bench strength, and the state of nonprofit boards of directors. It will include data from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, and will be customizable for specific areas: by city, state and region. A full report and interactive website will follow in the spring of 2015 and be accessible at no cost.
The survey will be open through November 26, 2014. TSNE will be in touch with you throughout the time period that the survey is open to update you on the response rate in your area. We will also follow up with you and your staff about this promotional schedule and to see if there is any more information or materials we can provide to you that will help in these efforts.
