We reported in our previous blog post on the MA Attorney General joining 20 other states in a lawsuit against HUD challenging HUD’s restrictions on CoC funding.
Yesterday, a second lawsuit was filed by a broad coalition of local governments and nonprofit organizations from across the country, also seeking a stop to HUD’s “unlawful and unreasonable restrictions that seek to shift funding away from proven solutions to homelessness.”
The coalition behind the legal challenge includes the National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) and the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), and many other local and regional entities, including the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance (MHSA) as a declarant in the lawsuit, focusing on the “severe and irreparable harm that HUD’s policy change will have on Massachusetts communities.” Thank you to MHSA!
Until and unless the court grants any relief, all CoCs must proceed as if the competition is going forward under the current HUD-announced rules. We will keep you posted.
