Both House and Senate economic recovery bills include $1.5 billion for one-time grants to state and local government, to prevent people from becoming homeless or quickly re-house those who become homeless. DTA projects that there will be a $3.36 million budget deficit in the EA account, which funds family shelter. As a means to address the deficit, DTA has proposed restrictions on eligibility. Legal Services organizations have put together a legislative fact sheet and appeal for advocacy on the situation.
The Core Group, along with Jim Mazik and Lynne Wallace, met with Bob Pulster via conference call today regarding the proposed grant budget and scope. There are several things to report from the call, and a need for us to do some additional revisions to the budget and scope.
