From National Low-Income Housing Coalition:
Urgent! The House of Representatives will vote TODAY to cut food stamp benefits from 4-6 million Americans
Today, the House of Representatives will consider the Nutrition Reform and Work Opportunity Act of 2013, H.R. 3102. This bill would cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/Food Stamps) by $40 billion over ten years by cutting between 4 to 6 million vulnerable people from the program. These individuals and families would lose crucial access to food. This is unacceptable.
Affordable housing advocates need to speak out now to protect this program that is so essential to low income families and individuals.
The timing of this House action could not be worse. A recent report by the Food Research and Action Center estimates that due to the recent recession nearly 1 out 4 families with children struggles to afford enough food.
The time to act is now! Call your Members of Congress and tell them to fight the growing problem of hunger in America. Ask them to oppose H.R. 3102. Find contact information for your representatives in the House by visiting NLIHC’s website and entering your zip code.
After you make your call, spread the word! Please forward this alert to your networks and encourage them to join this important effort to protect SNAP/Food Stamps
