As you know, Springfield was badly hit by the tornado yesterday.  While future updates will be forthcoming about the consequences to housing and homelessness, we know the damage was vast.  Channel 22 offered this information about how you can help:

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Pioneer Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is accepting volunteers to help people affected by the damage from Wednesday’s tornado.

If you can help, you must come in person to the Pioneer Valley Red Cross headquarters at 506 Cottage St. in Springfield starting at 9:30 A.M. Thursday. You will have to fill out an application, be screened for interest and available opportunities, and complete a background check.

You must bring a photo ID with you, as well.

You can also help by making a financial contribution at the Red Cross website , or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

You may also mail a check to:

American Red Cross Pioneer Valley Chapter
506 Cottage St.
Springfield, MA 01104

The Network will continue to be in close touch with its Springfield partners as we develop a coordinated response to this crisis.  Until then, let us send our thoughts and prayers to the Springfield community and provide whatever help we can.

Thank you.

Pamela
