How Housing/Homelessness Priorities Fared in the Conference Committee Budget
Last week, the Legislature’s Conference Committee released its FY27 budget, which the full Legislature adopted on July 1. The budget is now with the Governor, who has 10 days to decided upon any vetoes, followed by the Legislature’s opportunity to override any vetoes with a 2/3 vote.
In general, the Conference budget increased funding for key housing programs above FY26 levels, for example with $25 million more for the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program, $1 million more for the Access to Counsel program and $500,000 more for permanent supportive housing.
Unfortunately, it did not fund a new line-item for winter shelter beds nor did it level fund Housing Consumer Education Centers.
