Combining Housing and Employment for Homeless Young Adults

Education and employment are critical to the development of young adults experiencing homelessness as they try to claim their place in the adult world.  In this session we will explore:

  • Models of employment services for homeless youth
  • Critical linking employment with housing for youth
  • Examples from the field

Trainer: John Rio, MA, CRC is a well-known Houston-based trainer on employment services for people experiencing homelessness. At Advocates for Human Potential he currently directs the National Veterans Technical Assistance Center for US DOL; provides technical assistance and training for HUD recipients and CoCs; and works with the VA on expanding employment services for homeless veterans. He has managed supportive housing and employment programs during his 35 years in the field and has written about job readiness and PSH employment models. Previously he worked for the Corporation for Supportive Housing in New York; St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx; Community Counseling Center in R.I. and founded Riverwood Rehabilitation Services in R.I.
